In 2138, popular full-dive virtual reality online game Yggdrasil is shutting down. Guild leader Momonga sits alone in the Great Tomb of Nazarick, the headquarters where he and his comrades once thrived in glory, waiting for the end.
However, the shutdown comes and goes with Momonga somehow staying logged into the game. NPCs now begin to act with their own will and beyond Nazarick lies an unfamiliar realm.
